The Rumble Bees
If you rumble with the bumble, you get the STING!
MBJJ’s children’s classes are an excellent oppurtunity for your child. The instructor, Monroe Hall, teachs classes that balance jiu jitsu technique and motor skill development. Students benefit from the combination of skill games and live rolling. Children learn how to value teammates and work together, to train in a disciplined manner, to respect instructors and follow class rules, and most importantly, to have fun while learning a valuable technique. Children’s jiu jitsu is approached as a self defense technique and does not encourage or promote fighting in or after school.
Our children’s classes are all gi classes and work on a belting system. All beginning children start with a white belt and can work to earn stripes on their belt. Four earned stripes makes a child eligible for a belt promotion. Stripes can be earned for completing/demonstrating the following:
Earn Your Stripes!
- Be respectful
Students are expected to line up when asked and not to talk while the instructors are teaching a technique or talking to the class. By following the rules and being respectful to teammates, instructors, parents, and friends, children can earn a stripe.
- Learn the Technique
Students should work hard to pay attention to the instructors and learn the techniques demonstrated in class. Students should use the techniques they learn in class when rolling with other students. Students should practice the techniques they learn to improve their jiu jitsu.
- Do Your Best and Try Hard
Students who try hard, even if there partner has a better position or is winning the fight, can also earn a stripe. We encourage students to never give up and to always keep trying to find a way out of a hard position.
- Represent the Academy Well
Students who represent the academy well by fighting in jiu jitsu tournaments, wearing academy gear and acting respectfully and responsible outside of class will are eligible for earning a stripe for representing the academy well.
- Do Well in School
Students with a "B" or better average can bring in their report cards and are eligible for earning a stripe for doing well in school.
- Have Fun
We believe this is one of the most important aspects of our children's programs--to have fun! Students should practice good sportsmanship, demonstrate teamwork, and have a positive attitude. Having fun in the classes will ensure students gain as much as possible from each class.
Belting System
Children's belts follow a different color system than adult belts. Students in the children's programs will be belted in the following order:
- White (beginner)
- Yellow
- Orange
- Green
- Blue (advanced)
