About Us
Philosophy
The goal of Maryland BJJ is to instruct all students in the martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Our students are trained by our experienced instructors. Our instructors aim to teach BJJ in a safe environment and in an easily understood format. In keeping with the traditions of BJJ the academy focuses on the students as a whole not just a few standout fighters. Building team unity, hardwork and, discipline MD BJJ is fast becoming the place to train in Anne Arundel county and the outlying Maryland area.
History
Maryland Brazilian Jiu Jitsu opened in June 2007. Co owners Duke Koblinsky (brown belt) and Monroe Hall (purple belt) are both accredited Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructors.
In January 2009, Maryland BJJ relocated to our new location on Mountain Road in Pasadena, Maryland.
Facility
MD BJJ relocated the new academy January 17-19, 2009. We worked to ensure our new space is bigger and better! The new space includes:
- A reception desk
- A sitting area for observers and parents
- An attached bathroom
- An attached dressing room
Our new space has a traditional brazilian mat space—a large open mat for training and padded walls. We have also installed pull-up bars, a speed bag, and a heavy bag. We are proud of our new space and invite you to check out our new academy!
Classes
Classes are structured to create a balance between warm-up and stretching, jiu jitsu technique and live rolling (real matches). This format enables students to refine their technique and reach individual goals. Often, classes follow this basic format:
Warm-up: 10 – 15 minutes
Technique Demonstration & Drilling: 20 – 30 minutes
Live Roll: 45 minutes*
Our classes allow each student to customize their workout as needed. MD BJJ’s instructors are equipped to instruct students regardless of experience level.
